This year’s Remembrance Rugby game saw a strong President’s Select XV, which included USA Sevens coach Mike Friday and former Scotland international Mattie Stewart, take on a British Army Rugby Masters XV, the current World Masters Rugby Champions.
The teams kicked off at 19.30 on Armistice Day, 11th of the 11th, after paying their respects with a well observed two minutes silence.
Played at a ferocious pace throughout, both teams went full tilt in this very entertaining and evenly matched game.
With the scores level at 12-12 at half time the President’s side managed to run out narrow winners 19-17 after scoring a converted try with just 5 minutes to go.
Earlier in the evening the future of our sport in our community was on display with three youth matches between Aylesford Bulls and Aylesford School Sports College in the second annual Kent Reliance Cup.
Aylesford Bulls were winners in a very even U15/U16 game, and also in the U13 and U14/15 games to retain the Kent Reliance Cup.
The event helped raise money for the Royal British Legion poppy appeal.
