Old School Rugby

After our 3rd XV’s recent trip to Dover’s Crabble Athletic Ground we received this email from the Sharks.

Dover 4’s and Aylesford 3’s

Just a short note from Dover RFC to thank your 3’s for yesterday, and despite being players short turned up and we were able to loan players and get everyone running around.
The score was irrelevant our gratitude genuine and I hope the guys that did travel enjoyed the day out.

Thanks again,
Richard Catt – Dover RFC

In the build up to this game, a fixture taken over from Sevenoaks who’s 4th XV had folded earlier in the season, the manager and captain had been having a tremendous struggle to get a full team out. By Friday night they had finally done it and confirmed to Dover that they were OK for the next day. Unfortunately, on the day of the match, a flurry of last minute drop outs left the Bulls with only 12 players. But that dirty dozen stayed and played.

The heartfelt thanks from Dover sums up the true ethic of rugby. That old school attitude that says, rugby players don’t really care who they play, when they play or where they play, just so long as they play!
