Bulls Sans Frontières

We hosted twenty-one teams at the Jack Williams Ground on Sunday, 4 June as they took on a series of wacky races to raise £20,000 at the Cornwallis It’s A Knockout charity challenge.

Friends, colleagues, and charity supporters completed 12 fun activities from foam covered inflatables to dizzy dragons to raise sponsorship for causes including the KM Charity Team, Pilgrims Hospices, and Macmillan cancer support.

First place went to local heroes Spirit of Rugby, second were Gillingham’s Norman Conquerors, and Cheers Our Table came in third. French Connection won an award for raising the most for charity.

Aylesford Bulls entered two teams – Dan Mason’s pre-tournament favourites, Mason’s Marauders, finished a “disappointing” fifth while Jayne Ashdown-Denney’s team – Maidstone’s Butler’s Bs, who were supporting the Peggy Wood Foundation, won the comedy award for providing the most entertainment for the crowd – antics included knocking another team over in the caterpillar and drinking the water in one of the obstacles to try and lighten the task!

The event was staged by Cornwallis East Kent Freemasons’ Charity at Aylesford Bulls Rugby Club and supported by the KM Charity Team who handled team bookings and sponsorship collection.

John Grumbridge, chairman of Cornwallis East Kent Freemasons’ Charity, said: “We’re grateful to everyone who has come along and made a fantastic contribution to what has been a brilliant day.”

Simon Dolby, chief executive of the KM Charity Team, added: “Sunshine, smiles and success have been the order of the day. Some of the teams had less than eight participants so we amalgamated them to give them a better chance on some of the activities and they’ve pulled together magnificently.”
