The club is sad to report the passing of one of the stalwarts of the early days of Linton RFC who would be known to many of the current club having organised the club tour to Budapest in 2017, a place he has called home for over twenty years. He has supported the development of Rugby in Hungary with fund raising, most notably the formation of the ‘Rugby watching and Beer drinking Society ‘ for ex pats, and serving on various committees during his time there.
Hailing from Manchester, Alan joined Linton RFC at its inception and played many games for the first XV in both the back and second rows, and being the master poacher he topped the try chart for a forward during our early years.
He was a member of the victorious Linton sevens side that won the Kent plate in 1980 having honed his Skills at Boughton Park RFC before moving South to take a job with Kimberly Clark.
To those who knew him Alan was a true gentleman and a real friend to the club. He will be sorely missed and our thoughts are with Chris, Jonathan and Owen at this sad time.
The funeral will be in Hungary and therefore it is unlikely that we will have a presence but hopefully we can raise a glass to him when we know the date.
